European Online marketplace Fruugo delivers robust Christmas trading

Fruugo, the UK-based online global marketplace today (13 January) confirmed it had seen 25 per cent total festive sales growth year-on-year for the six weeks to 24 December 2025 with continued strong momentum into 2026.

Key categories over the holiday period included seasonal and holiday decorations, cosmetics, vehicle parts and accessories and hair care.

Fruugo is a multi-currency, multilingual tech platform which matches customers and sellers in 42 countries worldwide.

In November 2025 Fruugo was named by the Financial Times as Britain’s fastest growing business over the last decade based on CAGR growth, also ranking the e-commerce platform in third position across the whole of Europe.

Fruugo’s robust Christmas trading is especially pleasing coming after a 2024 decision to introduce a self-imposed moratorium on new sellers joining the platform, so that it could position itself for its next decade of sustainable, rapid growth.

Fruugo chief executive officer Fergal Gara said:

“2025 was a year of real progress for Fruugo following our significant shift in approach as we re-engineered the business from the ground up, focusing on better sellers, better products and strong compliance standards, in line with the ever increasing requirements of regulatory bodies around the world.

“We firmly believed then, that sacrificing short-term growth to build long-term trust was the right way forward for an e-commerce platform that’s proud to call the UK and Europe our home.

“Our strong performance in the final quarter of 2025 is a validation of our decision to focus on seller quality as we develop our platform for our thousands of selling partners right across the globe.

“There is still much to do as we build a Fruugo fit for the next decade, but I’d like to thank my 150 colleagues right around the world, for their hard work and commitment in delivering for our business partners and customers. ”

In 2025 Fruugo has further invested in it’s China operations including a new office in Shanghai as it develops its global partners to support sellers on the platform.

About Fruugo

Fruugo is a highly diversified global online marketplace, headquartered in Cumbria in the United Kingdom supporting e-commerce transactions in 42 countries, 31 currencies and 28 languages.

Its strongest markets include the Scandinavia alongside Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK which has been, and continues to be, a bedrock for the business.

Fruugo business is fast-growing, asset light and built for scale through its proprietary technology platform.

Its growth is driven by the global shift towards online shopping, Fruugo’s diverse seller base, extensive product catalogue and wide geographical reach.

In 2024 Fruugo identified that marketplaces would face reputational challenges if they didn’t have a tight control of the sellers who used their platform, the quality of the items they offered and hadn’t invested in the infrastructure to address regulatory issues at pace.

That’s why it’s been driving the quality of the sellers using the platform, introducing stringent ‘Know Your Business’ obligations on those it accepts because it operates in a sector where trust increasingly matters.

That means Fruugo is highly selective about the sellers on its platform and has been building a content surveillance team that pro-actively sweeps the site for known high-risk items using keyword blocks, image recognition and other AI tools.

Fruugo employs around 150 people with team members located in various European countries and the Far East.
