Six Common Issues to be Avoided in Product Data

Keeping your product data accurate is essential to ensuring your items are published smoothly once uploaded. Many retailers, especially when listing products for the first time, encounter a few common data issues that prevent their products from going live on Fruugo’s marketplace. The good news is that these errors are easy to avoid and even easier to fix. In this post, we’ll walk through the six most frequent issues and how to avoid them.

1. AttributeSize – Size invalid

If you have a product with multiple variants, please ensure that you populate the AttributeSize fields with valid size attributes only, especially for apparel. A ‘Size invalid’ error indicates that the value provided is not recognised as a size. To avoid being flagged, please refrain from using vague values such as ‘As shown’, ‘01’, or codes that have not been explained in the title or description fields. More importantly, do not add a colour attribute to the AttributeSize field; this is a frequent mistake that prevents products from going live.

2. AttributeSize – Size is required for this category

If your product contains grouped items (variants), ensure all necessary attributes are added in the appropriate fields. Attribute sizes are especially critical for all products mapped in Apparels such as shoes and clothes. Correct sizing allows customers to successfully choose and purchase the specific product variant they need.

3. Imageurl1 – Image contains text, overlay or watermark

Primary product images must not contain text or watermarks. To ensure the product is clearly displayed on the website, the main image should be centred on a clean, white background. A high-resolution image with minimum 400 x 400 pixels creates the best first impression for customers. If text is necessary to describe the product, it can be added to the additional images.

4. Category does not exist or is not an exact match

When providing a category path for your product, you must ensure the product title and description accurately match that category. Distinctions (e.g., men, women, children) should also be specified in the product titles. If the information is inconsistent, the system cannot confirm the correct categorisation, which will result in the ‘Unclassified – Category does not exist or is not an exact match’ error.

5. Descriptions – Description contains non-permitted values

The product description must contain only information relevant to the item itself. Please ensure it does not include URLs, contact information, contact requests, shipping or pricing details, discount offers, or references to other websites. Other restricted content includes warranty information, downloadable content, references to product condition (e.g., “brand new”), and general company details.

6. Titles – Title contains non-permitted values

The product title must be concise and contain only information relevant to the item itself. Please remove any references to price, shipping, contact information, discount or special offers, product condition, company details, attribute information, keyword loading, URLs, or emojis.

Note: Products will not go live unless errors have been corrected.
